Boston University and the University of California at Davis have established a national resource for Biophotonic Sensors and Systems where photonics provides the enabling technologies for advances in methods to detect, sense, identify and understand biological properties, conditions or changes at the molecular and cellular\/sub-cellular level. \u00a0 Now as a Phase II center, the research is expected to lead to significant commercial benefits in areas such as:
\n– Disease diagnosis
\n– Drug efficacy testing
\n– Patient drug effectiveness monitoring
\n– Food & water safety<\/p>\n

Both universities have mature photonics research centers and a track record of achievement in managing transitional research. \u00a0 Boston University is renowned for rapid prototyping of transitional research to fill urgent gaps identified by the Department of Defense and UC Davis has similar achievements in technology transfer for clinical health care applications.<\/p>\n

Research Model<\/strong><\/h2>\n

CBSS will operate under the guidance and advice of an Industry Advisory Board (IAB).<\/p>\n

The IAB is comprised of one representative from each member and will be responsible for making recommendations on the research projects to be carried out, the appropriation of resources to these projects, strategic direction and changes to bylaws. These recommendations are provided to the center director who will be responsible for the ultimate decision on research tasks and allocation of the pooled industry funding. Other member specific R&D projects may be launched within the center or outside the center as agreed between individual members and the center director.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
