CAS provides file servers for use by faculty, staff, and students. The storage is intended for academic work and related documents. Please do not store personal music collections, videos, or photos on the file server.
\nUsers seeking space for large amounts of data should contact us directly for a consultation.<\/p>\n

Getting Access<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

Access requires the use of a valid BU username and password.\u00a0 For guests or visiting faculty, please work with a faculty or staff member to request an account<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Request a User Folder<\/em><\/strong>
\nUser folders can be requested by submitting a help ticket<\/a> and requesting a new server account.
\nThis user folder will not<\/strong> be shareable.<\/p>\n

Request a Shared Folder<\/em><\/strong>
\nFor purposes of collaboration, you can request a folder that can be shared by a number of users. This can be done by submitting a help ticket<\/a> and and providing a list of authorized users.<\/p>\n

From off-campus<\/strong><\/em>
\nTo connect to a file server from off-campus, you must first connect to the BU network<\/a> via VPN and then follow the below directions.<\/p>\n

Instructions for Windows<\/h4>
\n

1. Open File Explorer using the shortcut Win + E.
\n\"\"<\/p>\n

2. In the File Explorer window right click \u201cThis PC\u201d in the left hand navigation pane. Select \u201cMap network drive\u2026\u201d. Note: In Windows 7 \u201cThis PC\u201d is labeled as \u201cComputer\u201d. Or select the Map Network Drive icon from the menu bar (Windows 10 only).<\/p>\n

3. Enter the path of the server folder. Example: \\\\casfs.bu.edu\\folder_name<\/strong><\/p>\n

4. When prompted, enter your BU credentials as AD\\username<\/strong> and Kerberos password. Click OK.<\/p>\n

Instructions for Mac OS<\/h4>

\n1. In Finder, open the the \u201cConnect to Server\u201d dialog by clicking Go->Connect to Server (or by using the shortcut Command+K)<\/p>\n

2. Enter the path of the server folder. Example: smb:\/\/casfs.bu.edu\/folder_name<\/strong><\/p>\n

3. Click on the “+” to save the entry.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

4. Click Connect.<\/p>\n

5. Enter your BU username as AD\\username<\/strong> and BU Kerberos password in the connection window.<\/p>\n

Where is my folder?<\/strong>
\nHere is a list of common folder paths:<\/p>\n

\\\\casfs.bu.edu (PC) or smb:\/\/casfs.bu.edu (Mac)<\/strong> contains department and research group folders<\/p>\n

\\\\casfs.bu.edu\\class_folders (PC) or smb:\/\/casfs.bu.edu\/class_folders (Mac)<\/strong> contains the course folders for classes held in CAS 327 and 330<\/p>\n

\\\\casfsb.bu.edu\\facstaff_home$ (PC) or smb:\/\/casfsb.bu.edu\/facstaff_home$ (Mac)<\/strong> contains the user directories for faculty and staff.<\/p>\n

\\\\casfs.bu.edu\\homes1 (PC) or smb:\/\/casfs.bu.edu\/homes1 (Mac)<\/strong> Also contains user directories for faculty and staff. All newly requested faculty and staff folders are created in this location.<\/p>\n
