{"id":5570,"date":"2012-05-22T15:47:58","date_gmt":"2012-05-22T19:47:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.bu.edu\/cas\/?p=5570"},"modified":"2019-09-27T14:56:33","modified_gmt":"2019-09-27T18:56:33","slug":"cas-team-solves-riddle-of-turtles-origin","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/cas\/cas-team-solves-riddle-of-turtles-origin\/","title":{"rendered":"CAS Team Solves Riddle of Turtle&#8217;s Origin"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Researchers at Boston University&#8217;s College of Arts &amp; Sciences have uncovered the story of the turtle\u2019s evolutionary origins.<\/p>\n<p>The team compared the genome of turtles to that of different species to solve one of the last unanswered questions in vertebrate evolution: whether the turtle is a closer relative to crocodiles and birds than it is to lizards and snakes.<\/p>\n<p>Their research, published in the Royal Society journal <em>Biology Letters<\/em>, shows turtles to be closer relatives to the former, contradicting previous anatomical and paleontological studies.
