James A. Winn, Professor Emeritus of English, William Fairfield Warren Distinguished Professor, and former Director of BU\u2019s Center for the Humanities (BUCH), died on March 21\u00a0in Vermont. James was an outstanding intellectual and scholar; after graduating summa cum laude from Princeton and earning his Ph.D. at Yale, he became a leading critic in eighteenth-century studies with a broad interest in literature and the arts. Over his decades-long career, he won numerous awards and fellowships, including the British Humanities Council Prize and the Yale University Press Governors\u2019 Award.<\/p>\n
Through his work\u00a0in the English\u00a0department and BUCH, James was a champion for the humanities, as well as his students and fellow faculty.\u00a0He will be greatly missed.
