The Society of Fellows at BU Arts & Sciences<\/strong> is a vibrant community of current BU faculty and Postdoctoral Scholars committed to advancing excellent, innovative research and teaching, and interdisciplinary scholarship in the academy.<\/p>\n

Letter from the Director<\/strong><\/h4>\n

Boston University’s Society of Fellows was established in 2021 as a cross-disciplinary program\u00a0fostering excellence in research and teaching across the liberal arts & sciences. Since then, we have welcomed new cohorts of outstanding Postdoctoral Scholars in fields such as ethnomusicology, women\u2019s and gender studies, particle physics, archaeology, medieval literature, Black diaspora studies, political science, sociology, environmental studies, and more. As a broad constituency\u00a0of postdocs and faculty, we are committed\u00a0to the idea that it is by engaging with each other – within and across disciplinary expertise and conventions \u2013\u00a0we enrich our capacity to communicate about our intellectual passions, we gain often-unexpected ideas and insights, we nourish each other\u2019s best work, and we perhaps even transform current and future modes of scholarly inquiry and production. These processes come alive during our weekly colloquium \u2013 the centerpiece of our programming \u2013 during which members share works-in-progress and we learn from each other through\u00a0sustained and substantive interaction across different kinds of scholarship.<\/p>\n

We are now delighted to open our community to advanced PhD students at BU through dissertation completion fellowships for the 2026-2027 academic year. If you are a PhD student in any discipline in BU\u2019s Graduate School of Arts & Sciences and this sounds like something you want to be a part of, then please do follow the application links below. Postdoctoral Scholars Program<\/h4>
<\/p>\n

Potential applicants to the Postdoctoral Scholars Program: Thank you for your interest in the Society of Fellows. We will be taking an administrative pause and will not be running an application cycle for our Postdoctoral Scholars Program for the AY25-26 year.<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

Each year the Society admits five postdoctoral fellows, who are appointed for two-year terms. The fellows pursue research and teach three courses over four semesters, with one semester for full-time research. They participate in the scholarly life of the Society, the host department, and the university.<\/p>\n
