Making an investment in your graduate education is a wise decision, but we understand that navigating the financial aid process can feel overwhelming. We recognize the financial commitment of an advanced degree, and it is our mission in the Financial Aid office in the Graduate School of Arts &amp; Sciences to provide you with the resources necessary to finance your graduate education.<\/p>\n<p>The Graduate School of Arts &amp; Sciences offers <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/cas\/admissions\/ma-ms\/admitted-students\/masters-tuition-scholarship-information\/\"><strong>merit-based scholarships<\/strong><\/a> to competitive incoming master\u2019s students. In addition, graduate students may apply for federal and private educational loans. Numerous on-campus and off-campus employment opportunities are also available.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/cas\/admissions\/ma-ms\/financial-aid\/federal-unsubsidized-loans\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Federal Unsubsidized Loans<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/cas\/admissions\/ma-ms\/financial-aid\/credit-based-loans-federal-plus-private\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Credit-Based Loans (Federal PLUS &amp; Private)<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/cas\/federal-work-study\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Federal Work Study<\/strong><\/a><span>\u00a0<\/span>is a program for U.S. citizens and permanent residents that promotes access to employment for students who demonstrate financial need.\u00a0 Available funds are provided by a federal allocation and a University matching contribution.\u00a0 Recipients are selected by the Graduate School Financial Aid Office and must meet the federal need and other criteria.\u00a0 Student income verification is required for all students wishing to be considered for work-study.\u00a0<i>Application deadlines are June 1 for Academic Year awards and March 1 for Summer awards. <\/i>Please contact the<span>\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"mailto:grsaid@bu.edu\">Graduate School Financial Aid Office<\/a><span>\u00a0<\/span>for more information and an application.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Foreign Language Area Studies (FLAS) Fellowships<\/strong>: \u00a0<span>The African Studies Center has a limited amount of funding for graduate students in the form of Foreign Language Area Studies (FLAS) Fellowships. For more information on FLAS Fellowships, please see the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/africa\/forstudents\/alp\/flas\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">African Studies Center<\/a><\/span><span>.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.bu.edu\/seo\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">The Student Employment Office<\/a><span>\u00a0<\/span><span>works with currently enrolled students to assist them in their on-campus employment endeavors, through the Job Board and Quickie Job Services. It may be used for courses taken as co-requisites or prerequisites by special permission from the Graduate School of Arts &amp; Sciences. It may not be used for the Sports Pass, subway\/bus<span>\u00a0<\/span>passes,<span>\u00a0<\/span>library fines or late fees. Graduate School of Arts &amp; Sciences financial aid does not cover the cost of audited courses for Master&#8217;s students. Boston University employees are not eligible for GRS financial aid.<\/li>\n<li>Boston University\u2019s policy is to withhold all diplomas, degrees, official transcripts, and other official recognition of work done at the University from students with respect to whom there are any outstanding overdue debts to the University, including, but not limited to amounts owed in satisfaction of tuition, loan agreements, fees, and charges, as well as monies owed for occupancy in University-owned or -operated residences and for dining service. No student may withdraw from the University in good standing or graduate from the University unless all current obligations to the University are paid in full.<\/li>\n<li>The Graduate School of Arts &amp; Sciences follows a uniform refund policy for all institutional aid. A Master&#8217;s student who receives scholarship aid and withdraws or takes a leave of absence after the beginning of classes will have the institutional aid canceled. This includes but is not limited to Teaching Fellowships, Research Assistantships, and Graduate Scholarships.
