Because forests absorb a large amount of carbon dioxide\u00a0\u2014and these new findings demonstrate the amount they absorb isn&#8217;t what scientists originally thought\u2014it&#8217;s imperative scientists find ways to reduce carbon emissions as forest fires continue to rise.
