Writing Program Senior Lecturer Seth Blumenthal (GRS’13) recently received one of two Metcalf Awards for Excellence in Teaching awards, decided on by the Office of Provost in conjunction with the Metcalf Cup and Prize. The award honors faculty who “excel as teachers.” Seth will be honored at the upcoming 2020 Commencement Ceremony.

Whether teaching writing-focused courses about the Vietnam War’s lasting influence on American culture, the complex history of marijuana culture and politics, or political activism, Seth aims to present topics for students to develop clear, well-supported, argumentative prose in relevant discourses that are important to their own civic life. “This is an incredible honor, and I am so appreciative to be part of such a passionate community of educators. The best part has been sharing this recognition with everyone who has helped me, including my supportive family, mentors, colleagues, and of course, BU’s amazing students who always push me to do better,” Seth says. The award announcement was part of the first-ever virtual Senior Breakfast. You can read more at BU Today.
