Not many playwrights are at work following the guiding principle “Latinas in charge.” But up-and-coming powerhouse Alexis Scheer (GRS’19) is churning out witty and modern stories for the stage with Latin women at their center. Her work touches on themes of adolescence, identity, art, and—yes—the conjured spirit of Pablo Escobar. Scheer recently graduated with an MFA in Playwriting, and her work has already made it to New York. You can check out Our Dear Dead Drug Lord Off-Broadway through January 5, 2020, according to Playbill.
