A Historic Student Government Win

International relations major Hafzat Akanni (CAS’20)’s agenda for her term as president of the Student Government includes plans to make college more affordable and more welcoming for all students. Akanni, who is the first black woman to serve as president of Boston University’s Student Government, hopes to make gender-neutral bathrooms, textbooks, and study spaces readily available to her fellow students; she has always been interested in and committed to social justice, even before her time at BU.
