The College of Arts & Sciences does not award academic credit for internships, other than those offered in the context of Boston University Study Abroad programs.
However, students may use an internship as the starting point for a Directed Study proposal. To do this, an internship must be in a liberal arts field. Students must follow all the procedures listed for a Directed Study, and the Directed Study must contain a substantial academic component. The internship can provide students with valuable literature and field research upon which they may base the Directed Study.
If students are looking to participate in an internship that requires academic credit, and a directed study is not appropriate, CAS Academic Advising is happy to write a letter to the internship host explaining that we do not award academic credit, but do support a student’s participation.
