Expedition to Antarctica

Alumna joins largest all-women voyage to the land of ice and penguins, with an environmental focus.

Ida Kubiszewski (CAS’05, GRS’07), an associate professor of public policy at Australian National University, traveled to Antarctica in December 2016 as a member of the largest-ever all-women expedition to the continent. As one of 76 scientists chose from 1,000 applicants for the three-week trip, Kubiszewski traveled to Antarctica to advance her work showing policymakers the benefits ecosystems provide to humans—and the economic and social costs of damaging them.
