"am" Ramaswamy: "Progress in Earth System Science: Weather-to-Climate Modeling, Understanding and Predictions" // Dr. Ramaswamy is the director of the Geophysical Fluid Dynamics Laboratory (GFDL), which is one of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration research laboratories and a leading climate modeling center. Under his leadership, a new era in supercomputing was launched for GFDL. Significantly enhanced computing power has enabled higher resolutions and greater complexity in the lab’s climate models. GFDL now routinely runs experiments using very high resolution global climate models, capable of revealing regional details. In this talk, he will discuss seamless modeling across weather and climate timescales and how GFDL modeling is addressing questions on the different timescales. He will also discuss the newer series of models contributing to the Coupled Model Intercomparison Project Phase 6 (CMIP6).
