Course Overview<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n

CAS IN 399 is a variable<\/strong><\/span>-credit, asynchronous online, pass\/fail<\/span><\/b> course for CAS undergraduates who are required to earn credit while interning off campus. Taught by EL Connector staff, the course complements the experiential learning you\u2019ll be doing in your internships through critical self-reflection and professional development.<\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n

Interested students\u00a0are responsible for\u00a0securing your own internship placement and for\u00a0submitting\u00a0a complete application.\u00a0<\/span>Enrollment in CAS IN 399 is limited\u00a0and reserved for students who\u00a0are required to\u00a0be registered for course credit\u00a0in order to\u00a0intern.<\/span><\/b>\u00a0Only students whose applications are approved receive permission to register for CAS IN 399. Read more about the application process and eligibility requirements below.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Applications for\u00a0Fall\u00a02026 will be reviewed on a rolling basis until the course is full.\u00a0Interested students\u00a0are encouraged to apply as soon as an internship offer is secured.\u00a0International students must apply in time to have their CPT request approved before\u00a0the start of the semester. (CPT requests take approximately 10 business days to review.) No students will be admitted to IN 399 after the\u00a0add deadline on\u00a0September 16, 2026.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Currently,\u00a0<\/span>credits associated with IN 399 do not count\u00a0towards\u00a0graduation requirements in CAS.<\/span><\/b>\u00a0This policy is under review and subject to change. More information will be\u00a0provided when available.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In\u00a0certain cases, CAS IN 399 may be repeated for credit. If you have taken the course previously and would like to register again, please email\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/a><\/span>casel@bu.edu<\/span><\/a> to inquire about your eligibility.<\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n

International students should not take more than 3 total semesters of internship courses that support work authorization (CPT) for off-campus positions.<\/strong> Please contact your ISSO advisor<\/a> for more information.<\/p>\n

Course Format<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n

CAS\u00a0IN 399 is a variable-credit, asynchronous online summer course that students take alongside an approved internship during the fall, spring, or summer semester.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The course is run through Blackboard and divided into 6 instructional modules. Each module is designed to cover 1\/6<\/span>th<\/span>\u00a0of the internship\u2019s total duration and must be completed in the order assigned. Assignments include reading and writing exercises as well as video recordings.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

During the fall or spring,\u00a0IN 399 can accommodate students with internships\u00a0that\u00a0run\u00a0the length of the 14-week semester and require at least 6 hours of work per week.\u00a0It is the student’s\u00a0responsibility to track your own progress through the online course and to ensure that you are completing a new module\u00a0about every two weeks, so that you stay on track to finish by the last day of the semester.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Grading for IN 399 is\u00a0<\/span>pass\/fail<\/span><\/b>. To successfully pass the course, students are expected to complete all instructional modules successively and\u00a0in a timely manner; have 100% attendance at the internship site; and\u00a0demonstrate\u00a0engagement with the course material throughout the duration of the internship.<\/span><\/p>\n
