Rite of Passage 2026

Join the Howard Thurman Center in celebrating all graduating students and honoring Black culture with a Kente Stole ceremony and reception. Participation in the Rites of Passage Graduation Ceremony is open to all undergraduate and graduate students who have earned their degree between August 2025 and May 2026. This event is open to all attendees in the BU community, regardless of race, color, national origin, ethnicity, age, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, religion, or any other protected class status. Boston University is committed to fostering an inclusive environment that welcomes participants from all backgrounds. The ceremony will take place in the Tsai Performance Center at 685 Commonwealth Ave, Boston, MA 02215. The ceremony will be followed by a reception in the CDS building at 665 Comm Ave. Boston MA 02215 *This event DOES NOT take place at The Howard Thurman Center. Please read important info: All graduating students should register for tickets and tickets are required for friends and family of graduates. Graduates should arrive at 5 pm but doors open at 5:30pm for everyone else. Graduating students can pick up their stoles and buttons ahead of time at the Howard Thurman Center starting Monday April 27 until May 13. Pick up is only available between the hours of 10 am and 4 pm. Graduates who cannot attend the ceremony may pick up their stoles on May 15 by emailing jeddy@bu.edu.
