Film Screening of "Ben Between Africa" and filmmakerAri Nasser Ali

Ben Between Africa follows a filmmaker’s seven year search to track down her late uncle’s final letter, a journey that unexpectedly leads her back to mid-century Ethiopia, where her grandparents worked as Mennonite missionaries in the final years of Haile Selassie’s reign. What starts as a family mystery slowly unfolds into a deeper look at the western evangelical movement in Ethiopia during the lead-up to the 1974 revolution.

Along the way, the film explores the push and pull between Western influence and Ethiopian tradition, the impact of missionary work on kids, and the personal costs of global movements. At its core, Ben Between Africa is about the search for connection, how politics and cultural movements shape our lives, and how the search for home can echo across continents and generations.
