Catalyst 2026: a UI/UX Designathon

Catalyst is BU's annual UI/UX designathon that aims to challenge participants to explore how design, innovation, and community interact. Across 3 days (March 20-22, 2026), teams will collaborate to solve a design challenge and build a prototype of an app or a website that addresses modern-day problems. Catalyst is virtual and therefore open to all students across the country, regardless of experience level, so beginners are more than welcome! Students don't have to compete for the big prizes given away to winning teams: there are workshops and talks held throughout the weekend hosted by a range of professionals from design industries, which all registrants can participate in regardless of whether or not they're participating in the designathon portion of the event. Catalyst participants get to learn about teamwork and problem solving for real-world problems, focusing on subjects like sustainability, equity, healthcare, and much more. Students who join our workshops also get to learn from industry professionals about things like equitable design, mental health, ways to learn new hard skills, and so much more.
