Bethany Hughes

Boston University welcomes Associate Professor Bethany Hughes, Dept. of American Culture, Director, Native American Studies Program University of Michigan, and author of "Redface: Race, Performance, and Indigeneity" (NYU Press, December 2024) to BU for a discussion and conversation. Professor Hughes will discuss her work and award-winning book, followed by a conversation with Brianna Tafolla Rivière, Assistant Professor of History.

Professor Hughes (Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma) is a performance scholar and cultural historian interested in how performance constructs culturally recognizable categories and offers possibilities to resist or remake those same categories.
