Turandot: Past, Present and Future
"Nessun dorma" has become one of the most famous classical pieces in the world today. To mark the centenary of the opera it comes from, Puccini's last, unfinished opera "Turandot", a symposium called "Turandot: Past, Present and Future" will be held Saturday, April 11, 12 - 3pm, in the Marshall Room of the College of Fine Arts (855 Commonwealth Avenue, 2nd floor), followed by a small reception. The focus will be on the various completions of the opera by various composers—some of whom will be in attendance—and the issues involved in mounting this Exoticist opera today.
Guest speakers will be from both the academic and professional worlds, including Alessandra Campana (Tufts), Gil Rose (Odyssey Opera), Anthony Sheppard (Williams College), Kunio Hara (University of South Carolina), Eugenio Menegon (Boston University) and Deborah Burton (Boston University).
This event is free and open to the public.
