Roger Deakins, ASC, BSC, CBE, is a celebrated cinematographer, well known for his vast filmography, including The Shawshank Redemption, No Country for Old Men, Blade Runner 2049, and 1917. He has been nominated for an Academy Award 16 times and has been awarded a CBE and knighthood, holding the distinction of being the only cinematographer so honored. Along with his collaborator, James Ellis Deakins, he has published a book of his still photography, Byways, as well as the podcast Team Deakins. He also recently published his memoir, Reflections: On Cinematography, in November 2025 in the United States and Canada. James Ellis Deakins is the chief creative collaborator of Roger Deakins. Starting out in the laboratory end of of film, James went on to the role of script supervisor before choosing to work with Roger. Together, they have created a unique working team, widely known as “Team Deakins” due to their longstanding partnership.
