"Faces in the Flames" Opera Institute Workshop Performance
“Here are the faces of all my photographs, my neighbors, my children, my family, my wife. In the residue, all I can see are the embers of something new.”
What happens when your image disappears? Seven scenes tell the story of African American photographer Thomas Askew (1847-1914), an Atlanta resident whose images captured the dignity of African Americans during a time when only stereotypical imagery of Blacks circulated.
The Boston University College of Fine Arts School of Music: Opera Institute presents a workshop performance of a new opera with music by Nathan Felix and a libretto by Anita Gonzales and featuring Boston University alumni Martin Bakari (CFA'09,'11) and Arielle Rogers-Wilkey (CFA'25), CFA Assistant Professor, Voice Thomas Cannon along with students from the Opera Institute and Chamber Orchestra. The performance will be followed by a panel discussion.
This event is free and open to the public.
