COMtalk: Beyond Facts and Figures: Re-imagining Trustworthy Communication in a Time of Institutional Crisis
Trust in American democratic institutions has fallen to record lows. Fact-based government communication has become a relic, political identities have become hardened by algorithms, and news organizations are struggling to connect to deeply divided publics. Communication that supports a functional democracy feels dangerously out of reach. We need to think big, and re-imagine a communication ecosystem that supports just democratic futures. The new Center on Media Innovation for Social Impact in COM will catalyze this work at BU through bold experimentation, cutting edge social science, and critical humanistic inquiry. Join us for a conversation with MISI faculty directors about how they imagine achieving these goals through research and practice. The panel will include Professors David Abel, Amy Geller, Chris Wells, and Eric Gordon, and in it will be introduced by Dean Mariette DiChristina.
