Canciones del Alma: A Celebration of Latin American Art Song
Boston University School of Music presents Canciones del Alma. An evocative evening of Latin American Art Songs in celebration of National Hispanic Heritage Month 2025. Contralto Brenda Iglesias, tenor and Assistant Professor of Music David Guzmán, and pianist José Meléndez come together to present Canciones del Alma—a program that explores the soul-stirring beauty of art song traditions from across Latin America. This musical journey highlights the rich tapestry of European classical influences infused with the vibrant rhythms, folk idioms, and emotional depth of Mexico, Cuba, Argentina, Peru, Colombia, Venezuela, and Chile. From the nostalgic lyricism of Lecuona and Guastavino to the expressive voices of Jaime León and Juan Bautista Plaza, each song reflects a unique cultural identity and timeless human expression.
Whether you are a lover of classical voice, Latin American music, or simply passionate about cultural celebration, Canciones del Alma promises an unforgettable night of poetic resonance and powerful storytelling through song. This event is free an open to the public.
