Winter Backpacking
Intensity Level: Strenuous
Cost: $65/80
Prerequisites: Prior backpacking experience required
Ready to take your backpacking skills to the next level? Designed for those with prior backpacking experience who want to level up their skills to winter backpacking. This two-day guided trip will introduce you to the essentials of winter backpacking, with a focus on safe travel and camping in winter conditions. Your trip staff will supply you with wilderness education needed for snow travel, winter camping, and thermoregulation in sub-freezing temperatures. Be prepared to carry at least 35 lbs, camp in the snow, and travel on snow and ice. It will be a cool experience.
Clothing and equipment can be provided by BU Outdoor Programs upon request. Round-trip transportation is provided from the BU Fitness and Recreation Center to the trip location.
Since this is an overnight trip, your attendance will be required at a pre-trip meeting with trip leaders to discuss additional details including the itinerary, gear, and meals. The meeting will be held about 2 weeks before the trip’s departure. An email will be sent providing further details on the exact date and time. If you have any specific questions, don’t hesitate to reach out to us at buop@bu.edu!
Please note that itinerary adjustments may be necessary due to weather or other unforeseen circumstances.
