“How the United States Fights Wars: The Impact of the Goldwater Nichols Act”
U.S. Army Lieutenant Colonel George Greanias of the National Intelligence University will discuss “How the United States Fights Wars: The Impact of the Goldwater Nichols Act” This presentation is based on LTC Greanias’s PhD thesis, parts of which are summarized in this article https://warontherocks.com/2023/09/goldwater-ripples-how-defense-reform-made-the-fighting-force-more-diplomatic/ published in War on the Rocks in Sept. 2023.
LTC Greanias will explain the political, opoerational,and bureaucratic maneuvering that let to passage of the Goldwater Nichols Act. This landmark legislation significantly reorganized the way in which the U.S. military would be led in times of war by the creation of the various Combatant Commands.
