Connect for Success: Leveraging LinkedIn and BU Connects for Networking
Between one-click applications, online aggregators, and AI-enhanced resumes, applying to jobs has never been easier. Yet growing a career is a long game that requires more than just clicking a submit button. So what’s the glue that holds it all together? Professional Networking! Far from its stuffy connotations, networking is all about relationship-building, and because Terriers are always willing to help other Terriers, BU created BU Connects, a digital community of over 31,000 alumni & students – united for networking – both online and in-person. But how can you utilize BU Connects to its full potential? Join us on Tuesday, November 12 at 5pm as speakers from the offices of Alumni Relations and the Center for Career Development facilitate an in-depth discussion of networking strategies and how platforms like BU Connects and LinkedIn can be a key tool in your networking toolbox. Topics covered include:How to identify students & alumni that you want to connect withWhat to write (and what not to write) in direct messagesWhen and how to convert an online conversation to a coffee chat, informational interview, etc.How to find and post jobs on the BU Connects Job BoardWhere to find Terriers near you and participate in group networking and social activitiesHow to find a mentor or offer your career wisdom to othersIf you’re not yet on BU Connects activate your profile here, so you can follow along.
