Code-Switching & the Workplace
Code-switching represents how a member of an underrepresented group, consciously or unconsciously, adjusts their language, syntax, grammatical structure, behavior, and appearance to fit into the dominant culture. As the most diverse generation to date, Gen Z is faced with navigating the phenomenon of code-switching as they enter the world of work. Code-switching may affect you, someone you know, a colleague you're close to, a manager - it affects many of us.Join the Center for Career Development at the Howard Thurman Center (Commons, Room 205) to unpack the topic and act of code-switching. This event will feature voices from current employees and alumni, opportunities for connection and community building, and resources for navigating the world of work and prioritizing equitable employers.
