Hoarding Behaviors in Older Adults: Beyond the DSM
Join the BUSSW Bedford Campus for a FREE workshop on how to recognize, evaluate, and treat hoarding disorder.
Hoarding is a chronic disorder that becomes more prevalent and severe with age. It is one of the most frequently occurring mental health disorders among older adults, yet many clinicians feel unprepared to help clients who hoard. BUSSW alum Lauren Barretta, director of ClearPath, New England’s largest hoarding mitigation service, will discuss the impact of hoarding behaviors, assessment tools, and effective interventions.
Clinicians will:
- Gain an understanding of hoarding -disorder’s multifaceted impact on individuals and social welfare.
- Differentiate between hoarding disorder and other presentations of excessive clutter.
- Develop strategies for working with clients with hoarding behaviors.
1.5 Massachusetts social work continuing education credits will be available to licensed social workers (approval pending).
This event is the first in a series highlighting the four BUSSW specializations now available to Off-Campus and Hybrid students. Stay tuned for more information on upcoming events.
Lauren Barretta has a passion for working with individuals and families affected by hoarding behaviors. Prior to leading ClearPath, she worked as the director of the Council on Aging in Concord, Mass. and has over 15 years of experience working with older adults in the United States, England, and Brazil.
