IS&T RCS Tutorial - Introduction to Python scikit-learn (Hands-on)
Python is one of the most popular programming languages for data analysis, data mining, and machine learning applications. In this tutorial we will introduce the following powerful Python package Scikit-Learn. Scikit-learn is an open source machine learning library that supports supervised and unsupervised learning. It also provides various tools for model fitting, data preprocessing, model selection, model evaluation, and many other utilities. This tutorial will explore the many useful functions of this package by doing hands-on exercises on some real data sets. Python programming experience is advised. This tutorial will introduce and use the popular Jupyter Notebook system for working with Python code. We will briefly introduce the pandas library for data preprocessing. Prior experience using Pandas is helpful but not necessary. If you do not have Python installed on your home machine, please read and follow these instructions prior to attending the tutorial. A conda environment file with the required packages and instructions for activation will be provided prior to the session. This environment will need to be installed and activated if you plan to work with your own machine.
