Celebrating Banned Comics and Graphic Novels

"Books are under profound attack in the United States. They are disappearing from library shelves, being challenged in droves, being decreed off limits by school boards, legislators, and prison authorities. And everywhere, it is the books that have long fought for a place on the shelf that are being targeted. Books by authors of color, by LGBTQ+ authors, by women. Books about racism, sexuality, gender, history." -- PEN America

The most challenged book of 2022 was a graphic novel. As graphic novels are increasingly found on the shelves in schools, libraries, and bookstores, attempts to challenge and ban them have also risen. Join us for an evening of reading and discussion to support these comics under threat.

This event is sponsored by the Center for Educating Critically at BU Wheelock and the Massachusetts Independent Comics Expo (MICE).
