The City and the Mask: The Sartori Family's Mascheramento Urbano
How do you create a mask for a city? Join City Planning & Urban Affairs at Boston University and Women & Masks for a presentation by Paola Piizzi Sartori and Sarah Sartori about their family's publicly engaged work with this traditional Italian art form. Central to the rebirth of the mask in 20th century theater training and performance, the Sartori family has pushed the boundaries of the mask. This includes the family's innovative Mascheramento Urbano or urban masking and the arts-based research behind the development of a new mask commissioned for the city of Bolzano in 2022.
