Towards a Feminist Foreign Policy
Join us for a discussion with Veronika Wand Danielsson, Head of the Americas Directorate at Sweden’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and former Ambassador of Sweden to NATO and to France. In her present role, Wand-Danielsson is responsible for Sweden’s political, economic, security and cultural relations with North America, Latin America and the Caribbean. She maintains a keen interest in feminist foreign policy, something the Scandinavian countries have prioritized. While Sweden has been a leader on matters of domestic gender equality, Wand-Danielsson, following the footsteps of Margot Wallström, Sweden’s former foreign minister who was the first vice president of the European Commission, has become an active advocate for gender equality outside domestic politics, including in foreign policy. Julie Chi-hye Suk is a Florence Rogatz Visiting Professor of Law and a Senior Research Scholar at Yale Law School and Professor of Sociology, Political Science, and Liberal Studies at The Graduate Center of the City University of New York (CUNY). Prior to joining The CUNY Graduate Center, Suk was a law professor for 13 years at Cardozo Law School in New York, and taught as a visiting professor at the law schools at Harvard, Columbia, University of Chicago, and UCLA. She has lectured widely in the United States and Europe and has been a visiting fellow at the European University Institute in Florence and LUISS-Guido Carli in Rome.
