Encounters: Voicing and Silencing the Memory of Loss: Lullabies and Stories from Armenian Women in Istanbul
Melissa Bilal (UCLA) will illustrate the capacity of the lullabies sung by Armenian women in Istanbul to produce knowledge. She will argue that this knowledge is intimate and affective, bodily and instantaneous. It is a way of knowing “otherwise” that has the potential to form alternative ways to relate with this “history.” <P> Part of the Encounters with Holocaust, Genocide and Human Rights Studies series. The Encounters series invites Holocaust, Genocide, and Human Rights Studies scholars to share their latest research. The aim of Encounters is to facilitate a conversation across disciplines and to broaden the understanding of genocidal and violent events in modern and contemporary politics. Each year, Encounters will have a different focus. This year's theme is "The Politics of Genocide." All events will take place live over Zoom.
