Reggie Wilson’s Moses(es) Moses(es): a post-African/neo-HooDoo multi-media work
Available 11/17 - 11/30/20 ONLY. Email budance@bu.edu for link. Available to the BU community only. Join us in watching a 45 minute video recording of award-winning choreographer, Reggie Wilson’s Moses(es) 2013 performance at BAM (Brooklyn Academy of Music). Wilson’s work on his company, Fist and Heel Performance Group, “a name derived from enslaved Africans in the Americas who reinvented their spiritual traditions as a soulful art form,” investigates the intersections between literature, spiritual practice, history, and dance. We’ll share supplemental materials: a documentary about the making of the video; suggested readings including Zora Neale Hurston’s vernacular retelling of Moses, Man of the Mountain; and an article about Wilson’s work with a dramaturg. Choreographed for nine performers, Moses(es) is set to live vocalizations from the African diaspora and beyond.
