Dr. Lilian Cheung | SheInspires Series

The Women's Professional Development Committee hosts monthly networking lunches with guest speakers from a variety of careers. This month, we will be hosting Dr. Lilian Cheung, D.Sc., R.D. from Harvard's SPH.Dr. Lilian Cheung is a lecturer and the Director of Health Promotion & Communication at the Harvard School of Public Health’s Department of Nutrition. She is the Editorial Director of The Nutrition Source (www.thenutritionsource.org), the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health’s nutrition website with a broad global reach for health professionals, media and consumers. She is also co-editorial directors of Asian Diabetes Prevention Initiative (www.asiandiabetesprevention.org)and Obesity Prevention Source (www.obesitypreventionsource.org). Her work focuses on the translation of science-based recommendations into public healthcommunications and programs. She has extensive experience working with mass media vehicles to promote healthy lifestyles for chronic disease prevention and control.She was the co-Principal Investigator and co-author of Eat Well & Keep Moving (2001,2nd edition 2007; 3rd edition 2016), a widely disseminated school-based nutrition and physical activity program for upper elementary school children, that has been adopted in schools in all 50 states.She initiated and co-edited Child Health, Nutrition and Physical Activity (1995) with the late Surgeon General Dr. Julius Richmond, and co-authored Be Healthy! It’s A Girl Thing: Food, Fitness and Feeling Great! (2003, 2nd edition 2010) with popular children book author Mavis Jukes, a book written for adolescent girls. Her insight into healthy living and mindfulness practice led to Savor: Mindful Eating, Mindful Life, co-authored with Zen master, Thich Nhat Hanh (2010) that is in 17 languages. She is a member of the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health’s Board of Dean’s Advisors and a member of The Presidents’ Circle of The National Academy of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine in Washington, D.C. She has been a member of the Board of Directors for the Boys & Girls Club of Boston, a Trustee for The Roxbury Latin School and The Meadowbrook School of Weston.RSVP here to register for a virtual networking lunch!
