LGBTQ+ POC Ally Training

Join Umoja: BU’s Black Student Union, the Queer Activist Collective, and BU Student Government next Tuesday, July 7th, 5:30-7:30 pm EDT for an online training on how to be a better ally to people of color within the LGBTQ+ community. This interactive training will be led by Dr. Tanya O. Williams (she/her) and Chris Haigh (they/them). Participants will learn about whiteness within the LGBTQ+ rights movement, the experiences of people of color within the LGBTQ+ community, and the skills necessary to take on allyship as a continuing practice. Williams’s mission is to provide and create spaces in relationships, conversations, and communities for all people to feel seen and appreciated for their authentic selves. She has over 20 years of diversity, inclusion, and social justice teaching, in addition to programming and facilitation experience in higher education. Tanya holds a doctorate (Ed.D) in Social Justice Education from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, and her dissertation focused on internalized racial oppression and process toward liberation. Chris Haigh is the Founder and Lead Consultant for True Change Associates (TCA), whose mission is to work in community with people and organizations to move through personal growth to create lasting institutional and systemic change around equity and inclusion. Chris strives to help people and organizations be their best selves while contributing to a socially just world. Chris holds a M.Ed. from the University of Massachusetts – Amherst in Social Justice Education, and a BA from Colby College in American Studies.
