How Communicators Can Effect Social Change

In the wake of the murders of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, and Breonna Taylor and the resulting protests around the world, people are closely monitoring how communicators tell these and other stories about all kinds of social change. In this panel discussion, we will take a closer look at how communication professionals working in film, television, advertising, public relations, and journalism shape perception and activism. Panelists: Kelley Chunn, principal at Kelley Chunn & Associates; Sam Kauffmann, professor for film at COM; Phillip Martin, senior investigative reporter at WGBH; and Jaime Villalva, associate creative director at Droga5. Moderated by Tina Martin, assistant professor of the practice for journalism at COM.

Introduction by COM Dean Mariette DiChristina. Co-sponsored by COM's Committee on Diversity, Equity and Inclusion.
