Open Mic ft. Osimiri

Join the Howard Thurman Center, Q, Umoja, Minority Connection Initiative, and Center for Gender, Sexuality, and Activism for a performance by Osimiri Sprowal (he/they), an Afro-Indigenous, Two-Spirit, poet, model, researcher, and Disabled/Queer homeless rights activist! Their work grapples with the complex nature of identity and spirituality, and chronicles their journey to finding the divine within him/themself. They will be performing a number of poems that deal with their intersectional identities—dealing with transness, sexuality, class, spirituality, disability, and social justice.

The second hour will be an opportunity for people to share their own art relating to their lives and identities, whether that be through poetry, spoken word, music, dance, etc.! Please arrive at 5:30 p.m. if you would like to perform.

All work is welcome for reading/performing, but we ask that you support us in prioritizing and amplifying the voices of people of color and other individuals whose self-expression is too often silenced.

This event will be catered, courtesy of the Howard Thurman Center. Open to the public. Wheelchair and mobility device accessible. All-gender restrooms are available on the first floor.

For questions about physical accessibility or to request a communication-related accommodation (e.g. ASL Interpreters, Communication Access Realtime Translation (CART); assistive listening devices; hearing or induction loops), please contact bostonuq@gmail.com.
