AN EVENING WITH SANDI TAN
Tan’s autobiographical black humor documentary, Shirkers, premiered at Sundance 2018 and was instantly bought by Netflix. It’s the true sad, funny, touching, hilarious story of how Tan and her teen female friends tried to singlehandedly start the Singaporian “New Wave” with a crazy but inspired low-budget feature, and the bizarre mystery of how, even with a (male) director who claimed to have worked on Apocalypse Now, it failed ever to be finished.
