Mumbai: Mega-City at a Crossroads
Join Senior Associate Dean of Business & Finance, Dr. Bhaskar Chakravorti, along with renowned experts in the issues central to Mumbai and its people, including Holli Semetkoof Emory University, Head of the Low-Income Housing Practice at Moniitor Inclusive Markets, Vikram Jain, and Raina Singh of Pratham USA, to discuss Mumbai and how the city will react in this pivitol time and in the future at The Inclusive City Forum & Solution Symposium at Tufts University.|| Mumbai: Home of Bollywood, global hub of industry and purveyor of a uniquely Indian hustle, the city has captivated poets, academics, filmmakers, planners, and travelers the world over. Yet, as population and economic growth slows for Mumbai, this city, once buoyed by hyper-urbanization, must face the gnawing realities that come with being home to some of the world's most sharp and abutting contrasts. How will a city boasting some of the highest global real estate prices per square foot come to terms with over 50% of its population living in slums? Do these slums represent unlikely hubs of innovation and a gleaming hope for the future of strong and broad growth? How will this Mega City confront the disparities between boons of urban industry and deprivation for many of its newly christened citizens?
