<description><![CDATA[The Meredith E. Drench Lecture, Sargent Collegeâ€™s first endowed lecture series, was established by physical therapy alumna Dr. Meredith E. Drench to share her passion and belief in the â€œcompassionate rehabilitationâ€ of the whole person. The 2016 lecture, â€œKeeping Children and Adolescents with Down Syndrome Healthy: Medical Updates for Health Care Professionalsâ€ was delivered by Dr. Brian G. Skotko and Melissa J. Reilly.
Dr. Skotko is board-certified medical geneticist and co-director of the Down Syndrome Program at Massachusetts General Hospital who has dedicated his career to children with cognitive and development disabilities. Reilly, a motivational speaker and Special Olympics Athlete and Global Messenger was a member of Team USA at the 2005 World Games in Nagano, Japan. In May of 2010, she was inducted into the Special Olympics Hall of Fame.
