<description><![CDATA[Every year hundreds of Boston University students chose to make a difference, volunteering in disaster zones and troubled communities across the country, joining Alternative Spring Break trips organized by BUâ€™s Community Service Center. 

These volunteers spent the week building a roof over a wheelchair ramp and enclosing a bathroom at Cranks Holiness Church in infamous Harlan County, Kentucky. The majority of the students had never even hammered a nail â€” let alone installed a bathroom ceiling â€” but they learned.
