Lara Vincent Prize for Original Research <\/h5>\n

Tell Lara Vincent something couldn\u2019t be done,\u00a0and she\u2019d figure out a way to do it. She was a\u00a0skydiver, a competitive skier and motorcyclist,\u00a0an ice climber, a deep-sea diver, a military\u00a0pilot\u2014and a star pupil in the Boston University\u00a0Marine Program.<\/p>\n

While studying at BU, Lara designed a research project investigating\u00a0fish school formation. \u201cHer professor said\u00a0that would be great, but impossible given the\u00a0amount of time and facilities she had available,\u201d\u00a0recalls her father, Lee Vincent. \u201cShe said, \u2018We\u2019ll\u00a0see about that,\u2019 and she did it. That\u2019s what\u00a0made her a legend\u2014she took on what was\u00a0impossible.\u201d<\/p>\n

After graduating a semester early, Lara took\u00a0on the U.S. Marines, signing up to become\u00a0a Cobra helicopter pilot. She was killed in a\u00a0plane crash in June 1998, during her last\u00a0training flight.<\/p>\n

After her death, the BU Marine Program\u00a0established the Lara Vincent Prize for Original\u00a0Research, honoring the daredevil and\u00a0creative thinker.<\/p>\n

Lee and Sue are proud to keep their daughter\u2019s\u00a0memory alive by contributing to the undergraduate award every year\u2014and\u00a0have set up a bequest to continue their support.<\/p>\n
