The goal of <\/i>Perspectives<i> is to<sup> <\/sup>present scholarship that stimulates<sup> <\/sup>further investigation into each topic by offering a brief, digestible<sup> <\/sup>discussion, while providing our<sup> <\/sup>readers with an appreciation for the intricacy<sup> <\/sup>of the problem. The scholarship in <\/i>Perspectives<sup> <\/sup><i>will not provide the reader with all of the detail necessary<sup> <\/sup>to claim expertise, but rather, it will<sup> <\/sup>present what experts find to<sup> <\/sup>be the most interesting and important aspects of<sup> <\/sup>the legal problem. The<sup> <\/sup><\/i>Boston University Law Review<i> hopes that reading <\/i>Perspectives<i> is<sup> <\/sup>both enlightening and<sup> <\/sup>enjoyable.<\/i><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/bulawreview\/files\/2013\/11\/EDITORS-FOREWORD1.pdf\">Editor\u2019s Foreword<\/a><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">For<sup> <\/sup>the <i>Boston University Law Review<\/i>\u2019s inaugural edition of <i>Annex: Perspectives<\/i>, we<sup> <\/sup>are excited to present four reflections on the recent Supreme<sup> <\/sup>Court decision, <i>Adoptive Couple v. Baby Girl<\/i>.<sup>1<\/sup> As evidenced<sup> <\/sup>by the Court\u2019s five to four decision, as well as the more than<sup> <\/sup>thirty amicus briefs filed, <i>Adoptive Couple <\/i>has been, and<sup> <\/sup>continues to be, a source of great disagreement.<sup> <\/sup>The dispute over who should<sup> <\/sup>be awarded custody of Baby Veronica was littered with issues,<sup> <\/sup>including how to interpret the language<sup> <\/sup>of the Indian Child Welfare Act (ICWA), how to<sup> <\/sup>incorporate the best interest of the<sup> <\/sup>child doctrine, how to determine who is a parent, and how to determine<sup> <\/sup>what a biological parent must do to gain<sup> <\/sup>parental rights. Some have<sup> <\/sup>called this decision a great victory<sup> <\/sup>for children, while others see <i>Adoptive Couple <\/i>as a retreat from the consistent<sup> <\/sup>enforcement of the ICWA. The <i>Law Review <\/i>is<sup> <\/sup>happy to present<sup> <\/sup>the perspectives of Professors Barbara<sup> <\/sup>Ann Atwood, James G. Dwyer, Naomi Cahn<sup> <\/sup>and June Carbone, and Matthew L.M. Fletcher and Kathryn E. She is an expert on family law, feminist<sup> <\/sup>jurisprudence, and reproductive technology. Professor<sup> <\/sup>June Carbone is the Robina Chair in Law, Science and Technology at the University<sup> <\/sup>of Minnesota Law School.
