Project Title: “You Should Choose for Yourself”: Generational shifts in Gender and Education in Cambodia

Jessica Garber is a fourth-year PhD student in Sociocultural Anthropology. Her dissertation research focuses on the mindsets and attitudes facilitating young Cambodians’ increased participation in higher education in Phnom Penh. The project will consider how young people’s access to higher education has impacted their understanding of what it means to be a morally good, educated, middle-class Khmer person, particularly in gendered terms, and how young people are potentially reshaping gender ideologies to fit their aspirations for employment and family life.
