Project Title: Coverage for All, Access for Some: Public-Private Payor Mix in Brazil and Health Equity
Isaac Stovall will complete his Master of Public Health with a focus on health policy and law in spring 2023. He received his BA from Vanderbilt University in Sociology and Medicine, Health, and Society.
On his Fulbright open study project, Isaac will pursue health economics research with a focus on access to healthcare at the Federal University of Minas Gerais in Brazil.
Specifically, he is interested in Brazil’s public healthcare system, which insures all citizens, and its relation to private insurance, through which wealthier individuals tend to receive supplementary coverage. His advisors will be Drs. Monica Viegas Andrade and Kenya Noronha.
His interest in healthcare access comes from his time at the Metropolitan Public Health Department of Nashville interviewing COVID-19 cases and serving as a Spanish and Arabic interpreter at mass vaccination sites.
