All BUCLD attendees are welcome to join! The sign-up deadline is <strong>Friday, October 31, 2025, 11:59 PM (EDT, UTC-4)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>More information:\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">BUCLD 50 is proud to host a <a href=\"http:\/\/genderinlinguistics.org\/pump\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span>Pop-Up Mentoring Program<\/span><\/a> (PUMP) event. PUMP (sponsored by the LSA <a href=\"http:\/\/genderinlinguistics.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span>Committee on Gender Equity<\/span><\/a>) provides on-site, one-off mentoring meetings at linguistics conferences around the world. PUMP matches one or more mentees with mentors who can provide quick but personalized career advice to linguists at any stage, in any location, and in any career: anyone can be a mentee or mentor, the more the merrier.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/forms.gle\/AcCJ1SHPUkQcvcxB7\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span>You can register as a mentor or mentee here<\/span><\/a><span>. We almost always have a lot of mentee interest so we especially encourage participants to apply as mentors if they think they can. Anyone can be a mentor! PhD students can mentor MA students, postdocs can be a wonderful resource for senior grad students, Assistant professors can mentor postdocs, and so on. We keep career stage and interests in mind when matching mentors and mentees.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span>After you register, you will receive an email matching you with your mentor or mentee, with details about how to meet. Once we get the links to the PUMP signups from the LSA COGEL, we should uncomment the things below, and check that all the links are working--><\/p>\n<p><!--\nSign up here to be a <a href=\"https:\/\/forms.gle\/avaCdAWcjwSJfxQD6\">mentor<\/a>.\n\nSign up here to be a <a href=\"https:\/\/forms.gle\/c6H69QEskm1ePD7JA\">mentee<\/a>.\n\nAdditional information for mentors and mentees can be found <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linguisticsociety.org\/content\/coswl-pop-mentoring-program\">HERE (link not working as of March 30, 2024; also link below not working)<\/a>.\n\n\n\n<hr \/>\n\n\n\n\n\n<h4>About PUMP<\/h4>\n\n\nOrganized by<span>\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.linguisticsociety.org\/about\/who-we-are\/committees\/gender-equity\">the LSA Committee on Gender Equity in Linguistics (COGEL)<\/a>, The Pop-Up Mentoring Program (PUMP) is a series of <span>events that travel around from conference to conference, giving anyone who is interested a chance to have a brief meeting with a mentor outside of their official support system.<\/span>\n\nThis program is based on a successful \"speed mentoring\" program that has been run for many years by the American Psychosomatic Society, and is modeled after similar events organized by<span>\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.womenincogsci.org\/announcement\/new-wics-speed-mentoring-program\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Women in Cognitive Science (WiCS)<\/a>.\u00a0There are several ground rules for this program:\n\n\n<ol>\n \t\n\n<li>This is a one-time session (i.e., the mentor is not signing on for a longer-term mentoring relationship);<\/li>\n\n\n \t\n\n<li>The mentee should come with a specific question or two to guide the session and make the most of it;<\/li>\n\n\n \t\n\n<li>The mentee should send the mentor some information about themselves and their question(s) ahead of time, but not expect that the mentor will have read this information prior to the meeting.<\/li>\n\n\n<\/ol>\n\n\nAdditional information about the Pop-Up Mentoring Program can be found<span>\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/womeninlinguistics.com\/pump\/\">HERE<\/a>.\n--><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>We are excited to participate again this year in the LSA Committee on Gender Equity in Linguistics (COGEL) Pop-up Mentoring Program.
