What's hot on the BU Web: Boston University athletics

www.gobu.com

A snarling dog greets visitors to this new Web site. But have no fear -- it's Rhett, BU's Boston terrier mascot, with the latest University sports results.

The new Terrier athletics site is constantly updated with scores and game stories from BU's 11 men's and 12 women's varsity sports, including season wrap-ups and useful statistics. There is also information on the BU Athletic Association, the University's athletics facilities, sports promotions, and fan clubs, and a link to BU's home page and another link to the Total College Sports Network (TCSN), which runs the site and provides in-depth coverage of NCAA athletics programs nationally.

"The site gives BU students, alumni, and friends worldwide an opportunity to see how Terrier teams are doing," says Ed Carpenter, the University's director of sports information.

"We e-mail game stories to TCSN and they're online almost immediately," says Carpenter. For example, on April 10 Terrier fans could read about that day's men's and women's crew regattas on the Charles River at 5:30 p.m. -- even though the rowing ended only at 4 p.m.

Coming soon on the site is information on TotalCasts of BU games as they happen. "The TotalCasts are almost play-by-play coverage," says Carpenter. TCSN, based in Raleigh, N.C., has provided live real-time cybercasts of men's and women's basketball tournaments and the College World Series since 1987. Carpenter says that the site will eventually contain BU athletics graphics and photos. -- BF
