The Service Recognition Dinner on April 29 honored
290 BU employees who have reached the 10-year mark in their
service, 62 who have reached the 25-year mark, and 33 who
are retiring. Above, Jon Westling congratulates retiring
Physical Plant employee José Pereira, a professional

in the Cottage Farm section of Brookline. Pereira, a native
of the island of Sao Miguel, in the Azores (a group of
islands belonging to Portugal), who came to the U.S. in
1962, is leaving BU after 33 years. He, along with fellow
retirees, received a black wooden chair imprinted with the
University seal on the backrest. Those who have worked on campus for a
quarter-century, including Carol T. Walsh, associate
professor at the School of Medicine (on the right, with
Medical Campus Provost Aram Chobanian) were presented with
Chelsea clocks. Employees with a decade of service received
