Women's Softball

The Terriers, who have won 9 of their last 10 games, face Hofstra on May 1 at 11 a.m. in the America East Championships. The tournament is at the University of Delaware. If BU wins, on May 2 at 11 a.m. it will face the winner of the Delaware/Maine game.

Track

The Men's and Women's America East Championships will take place from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. May 9 at the Solomon Track on Northeastern University's Dedham Campus. Drive south on Route 128 and take exit 17. Take a right (Common St.) and drive one mile. The track is on the right.

Athletes of the Week

Tracy Turczynski, Jean Cooney, and Jennifer Manning

In the opener of a doubleheader against Towson University April 26, softball catcher Tracy Turczynski (COM'99) tied the game at 2-2 on a sacrifice fly in the sixth inning.

But she wasn't finished with her heroics yet. In the bottom of the 10th inning, she swatted a solo home run to win the contest. Then in the nightcap, she hit a three-run double, pacing the Terriers to a 4-0 victory. Two days earlier, losing 1-0 to the University of Delaware, Turczynski knocked in the tying run with a single. BU won the game, 3-1.

On April 24 the BU women's lacrosse team whipped Villanova University, 15-6, thanks in large part to attacker Jennifer Manning (SAR'00), who had five goals and an assist.

On April 26 it was the scoring punch of offense-minded defenseman Jean Cooney (CAS'99) that destroyed Drexel University, 18-8. Cooney led the Terriers with six goals, and four of them were assisted by Manning -- who had four goals and another assist.

Manning, the conference's leading scorer, had two goals against Villanova.
